The Skipper’s log-
A single Chapter October 25, 2004
Someone has said, “We are carried on the shoulders of those who
cannot see the landscape we describe. We owe them far more that our
weight.” We want to thank you who carry us on your shoulders through
your prayers and financial support. You are loved and appreciated
more than we can express.
A Hispanic family whose father is in prison said, on more than one
occasion, “We could never have faced this without your help, when
our father was arrested and taken to jail”. This man has a
million-dollar bond against him. He is a former pastor and appealed
to Tom for help in desperation before he was taken to jail.
In one of Tom’s classes at the county jail, Andrés said, “Your
handful of hope” carried me all across Mexico. As you know, I can
neither read nor write. God helped me to remember it. Andrés. is
back in jail and attends one of the Bible classes taught each
Wednesday. He reaches out to the other inmates with conviction of
the Scriptures and the power of Prayer.
Juan, another man in a Hispanic Bible study at jail said, “My heart
was prepared when I came here, and I trusted Christ”. He’s a changed
man and teaches others constantly. He is a real light. Tom likens
him to the apostle Paul when he was in jail and witnessed to the
prisoners around him. Juan will be released soon, perhaps before my
next class on Wed. God will use him as a changed man with Bible
knowledge and conviction. He is a missionary.
June enjoys writing encouraging words to men in prison who are
studying the Bible. The woman who distributes these studies doesn’t
know Spanish, so she brings them to June to help her understand what
they observe in their studies. What a joy it is to read their notes
of what they have learned. Several of these men have received the
Lord as Savior through these studies. Although some of them are
unlearned and write poorly, they are growing in the Lord. Recently,
a couple of them wrote their prayer requests. One asked for
strength, wisdom, patience, discernment and mercy. Another wants to
stop lying, be honest with others, and asks prayer for his mother
who had lung surgery. Antonio asks prayer for his family, his wife,
children and mother. Roberto asks for healing for his family. These
men care deeply for their families.. The Bible tells us to pray for
them..
June had opportunity to witness to Ernesto at 0ur first ESL class
recently in a new area. He wore rings in his ears and below his
lips. Ask God to convict him of sin and turn Him to Salvation with a
changed life for God’s glory. We count on you as part of our team.
In His Grace,
