Update from Tom & June Skipper

May 29, 2008

We became Christians at Sandy Baptist Church in 1949. June and I served in Central America 14 years. Later, 16 years in Spain in Pioneer Church Planting in areas without a Christian witness. Our last transfer was to Oregon. Here we have continued to minister to Spanish speaking people for the last 20 years with the heavy influx of people from Mexico, Central America, South America and Cuba.

June enjoys the privilege of encouraging and mentoring young married Hispanic women. She also corrects the “Spanish Emmaus Bible courses the inmates are studying. The students write her notes of appreciation in their study books.

I go into the Inverness Jail on Wed. and Fridays for Bible classes and evangelism. Inmates are brought from the cell blocks to two different multipurpose class rooms. A maximum of 20 men are allowed in each Bible class room. They must request permission to attend the class. New students come each week to the Spanish speaking groups.

NEW DEVELOPMENT- OPEN DOORS FOR THE GOSPEL

Leo Gentry Nurseries- with 300 employees has invited us to visit at 3 of their farms in the area. They pay the men to listen to the Gospel. We have a good attentive audience. Francisco Corona is my Mexican partner in ministry. He is a building contractor and a very important person on our outreach team. Francisco is very active in his church that meets in the Greater Gresham Baptist Church facilities.

Good news My twin sister- Jeannie trusted Christ as her Savior a few months ago. On March 16, I baptized her at Damascus Community Church. April 26, I performed her marriage to Joe Burns with whom she had lived 24 years.

Last Sunday morning in the Hispanic church service at Greater Gresham Baptist church, she gave her testimony in English in the church service for the first time in her life. I translated for her into Spanish from English. God is at work. Her husband Joe Burns is making progress toward knowing Christ as his Savior. Two couples meet with them each week for separate Bible studies. This has been vital in their progress.

MENTORING MEN FOR CHRIST

I meet with men for breakfast mentoring two times a week at 7:00 am. On Wed., with a business man. On Thursday, with a youth pastor and also a student at Multnomah Bible Seminary. Each, has a different need. I have seen a lot of young men move on in life and ministry through this ministry. On Sat. Morning, at 5:45 am I meet for prayer with men. One a church elder, another a Bible teacher, and Dr. Sayson, our physician. They come from GSCC to meet around our kitchen table each week. Recently, they reminded me, we have been praying together for 20 YEARS !!

God's Blessing is our desire for you.

In His wonderful name,
Tom and June
